Update on Anderson Road works

The initial phase of Anderson Road is approaching completion; however, several sections still require further work prior to final approval.

The next segment scheduled for construction is the stretch between Middle Beach Road and McGee’s Parade. Approved vegetation removal along the road verge is planned for the week commencing Monday 26 May.

The commencement of construction will follow, subject to weather conditions and shipping logistics.

Affected householders and local businesses will be contacted shortly to discuss access requirements and the detailed schedule of works.

Should you have any enquiries regarding these works, please contact Wesley Holden, on (02) 6563 2066 or via email at Wesley.holden@lhib.nsw.gov.au .

Have Your Say: Draft LHIB Delivery Plan and Service Delivery Commitments

The draft Lord Howe Island Board (LHIB) Delivery Plan and Service Delivery Commitments are now on public exhibition for a period of 28 days, closing on Thursday, 19 June, 2025.

These documents are available to view online and in person at the LHIB Office during business hours:

Draft – LHIB Delivery Plan

Draft – LHIB Service Delivery Commitments – SDC

What are these documents?

The Delivery Plan is a four-year strategic plan for LHIB. It takes the objectives from the Community Strategic Plan and outlines the actions LHIB will deliver over four years.

The Service Delivery Commitments outline the core services provided each year. Each service includes performance indicators used to measure progress.

Why have they been created?

LHIB is adopting a new planning and reporting framework, in line with other councils in NSW. This framework includes a reporting structure to communicate progress to both LHIB Board Members and the Lord Howe Island community.

The framework begins with the community’s long-term aspirations, captured in the Community Strategic Plan (CSP), which was publicly exhibited in June, 2024, and adopted in August, 2024.

The Delivery Plan and Service Delivery Commitments are part of this framework, setting out the strategic actions to achieve the CSP vision.

Why does the Community Strategic Plan (CSP) look different?

The Community Strategic Plan, Delivery Plan and Service Delivery Commitments are all part of an integrated set of documents. The CSP has been redesigned to match the look of the new documents, but the content remains unchanged.

Lord Howe Island Community Strategic Plan 2024-2034

Why are these new documents important?

Together, these documents guide long-term decision-making and planning for the Lord Howe Island Board. They provide clear objectives aligned with the priorities of the Lord Howe Island community and the responsibilities of LHIB.

Next steps

When the public exhibition period ends, all feedback received will be considered and, where appropriate, incorporated into the final versions of the documents.

Upcoming Citizenship Ceremony Wednesday 17 September 2025

LHIB advises that a citizenship ceremony is scheduled to take place on Wednesday 17 September 2025.

Please note that participation in a citizenship ceremony is a mandatory requirement for the conferral of Australian citizenship.

Community members who intend to undertake the Australian citizenship test, or who have already completed the process and wish to participate in this year’s ceremony, are kindly requested to contact the Administration Office of the Lord Howe Island Board no later than 30 June 2025 to assist with planning arrangements.

Citizenship ceremonies on Lord Howe Island are scheduled based on community demand. Late applications are not guaranteed to be included in the upcoming ceremony and may need to be deferred to the next available ceremony.

Board Meeting schedule update

The Board will now hold its Open Session on 5 June 2025, beginning at 9:30 AM at the Public Hall. This replaces the previously scheduled session on 28 May.

The community are invited to attend, and to share in morning tea and a chat with Board members.

A Closed Session will take place on 4 June 2025. The agenda will be issued closer to the day.

WMF Schedule Changes June 2025

The Lord Howe Island Board advises residents of upcoming changes to the Waste Management Facility (WMF) schedule in June.

Due to the King’s Birthday Public Holiday the WMF will be closed on Monday 9 June, 2025. To accommodate this, the facility will instead open on Tuesday, 10 June, 2025.

Following this period, normal winter trading hours will resume.

The WMF will also be completely closed on Friday, 20 June, 2025. This is a non-service day for household waste, and no access will be available for waste disposal, by appointment or otherwise.

Community members are encouraged to plan ahead to avoid inconvenience.

For further information, please contact Kate Dignam via email at kate.dignam@lhib.nsw.gov.au or call 02 6563 2066.

Expressions of Interest now open: Join the Community Environment Advisory Committee (CEAC)

LHIB is inviting community members to express interest in joining the re-established Community Environment Advisory Committee (CEAC). This committee will play a vital advisory role on key environmental issues, including biosecurity, land management, the Biodiversity Management Plan (BMP), and the Permanent Park Preserve Plan of Management (PPP PoM).

The CEAC presents a meaningful opportunity to contribute to the Island’s environmental future and ensure that community perspectives are reflected in decision-making. Whether you’re a long-term resident, business owner, a conservation advocate, or simply passionate about Lord Howe Island’s unique natural heritage, we encourage you to apply.

If you’re interested, please complete the Expression of Interest (EOI) form available on the LHIB website. Expressions of Interest close on Monday, 2 June, 2025.
