Letter from the Editor – July 2025

We are in the middle of winter and the Island is very quiet. There are more locals than visitors about and yet the sun is still shining and the beauty of the place never changes.

Lord Howe Island is never perceived as a winter destination even though the average daytime temperature of 18 degrees Celsius is considered mild. For years we have unsuccessfully tried to promote the Island in winter.

The very positive side to a quiet winter is that gives us residents a chance to catch up on property repairs and maintenance. Everyone has the opportunity to take a holiday and enjoy a much needed rest – and this particularly important in the hospitality and service industries.

Time goes very quickly and, before you know it, spring is here and we are ready to welcome visitors with our smiles again.
