Topping the list is Australia’s remote Lord Howe Island Airport (LDH). This UNESCO World Heritage site offers a dramatic introduction as planes descend toward a narrow runway nestled between azure waters and lush mountains.

The second Soccer Camp wrapped up this week with smiling faces, as kids from across the Island came together to learn, play, and enjoy the spirit of the game.

On Sunday 30 March, 2025, Pixie Hanson won the 2km Beach Run (U14 Female) at the Australian Surf Life Saving Championships on the Gold Coast. Pixie raced some of the best track, cross-country and beach running athletes in the country, and stormed home to a convincing 12 second win. Pixie competes for Warilla Barrack Point Surf Life Saving Club, and the Australian Championship completes her rise to the top of the event, after winning the NSW Championship over four consecutive years from 2022-2025.

Electric bikes have taken Lord Howe by storm. There is hardly a young family on the Island without an e-bike and, for the guest house and restaurant staff who usually work one or more seasons on the Island, e-bike ownership has become the norm. I’ve had an ASEAKO electric bike since 2020, and it has given me good service. Lately, however, I’ve found it increasingly difficult to get their spare parts in Australia. A friend of ours has a subscription to Choice Magazine and offered to show me their analysis of a wide range of e-bikes, all of which were tested in their laboratory and on the road.
