Nippers and Naggers

We helped celebrate our unique Island community recently at the Nippers and Naggers Erskine Valley Cup Event held at Neds Beach. We had beach volleyball, nippers events, and tug of war, and everyone had a great time coming together!

The Erskine Valley Cup is about connection, and while it has started off with a few competitive events, the heart of this idea is to bring our school and wider community together in a way that makes everyone feel welcome, included, and supported.

Thanks very much to everyone who participated and showed their support and thank you to Moose Skeggs for the coordination and planning that brought this event together.

April Fools

As is tradition, April 1st saw some interesting pranks and jokes pulled by students and staff, including a glitter attack in my office! My favourite of all, and one that caught many, was our celebration of World backwards day! We wore shirts, shorts, and dresses backwards, and moved that way too! Needless to say, we went backwards that day!

Sporting Opportunities

Thanks to some amazing community support, we have been able to provide our 3-6 students with some fantastic sporting opportunities during the term. Thanks to the Lord Howe Island Bowling Club and volunteers, we have all enjoyed learning about and playing lawn bowls, while sailing has also been a massive hit, thanks to Jack Schick and his army of volunteers! Such incredibly lucky kids!

End of Term Treat

Speaking of fabulous opportunities, our SRC combined with Dean Hiscox to take us for boat tours of our beautiful lagoon as an end of term treat. Years 4, 5 and 6 had a wonderful experience, although the heavy rain came at the wrong time and stopped our younger students from having their turn never mind, we will reschedule for early next term.

End of Term Assembly

In the last week of term, we celebrated everything great about our school at the end of term assembly!

Our students demonstrated their excellent reading skills and presented amazing artworks and poetry.

Years 5 and 6 also explained what they had been learning in History all about Lord Howe Island, from the early days to its wonderfully diverse cultures and experiences, past and present. It was also lovely to be able to recognise some very special kids for their efforts and results across the term, as well as presenting House Captain and Student Representative Council (SRC) badges to our fantastic school leadership team. Well done to all!

Happy easter from everyone at LHICS and we look forward to more adventures in learning in Term 2!
